Ideas For Wedding Favors that are a Little Unusual

A lot of young brides tend to go straight to the old favorites when it comes to wedding favors. Perhaps influenced by some weddings they’d been too or their mothers ideas but with all the favors available now why go for the ‘same old’? It’s easy to go for the coasters, box of candy, candles, or flower arrangements that are a dime a dozen. With all the options even some of these old favorites are now available with some unique twists. So in shying away from the standard some will choose a different approach and go with something more unique and ultimately more memorable. Sometimes the more unusual wedding favors are actually some of the more common everyday items, but given a personalized touch to make the ordinary seem a little more stylish. An item as simple as a pizza cutter can be given an upgrade simply by adding an engraved saying or even just the initials of the wedding couple. A pizza cutter? I mean we use them all the time but who would think of this for a wedding favor?
A large number of useful kitchen items and utensils can be transformed into something unique and different by engraving them or even decorating them with the theme or colors of the wedding. Heart shaped measuring spoons are a unique gift that will either be used over and over. Refrigerator magnets, whisks, pear timers, and even honey pots are more examples of unusual wedding favors that will bring a nice touch to anyone’s kitchen. Not only practical but they can offer some humor to the occasion and are items that the guests are certain to use over and over again.
Another example of an unusual wedding favor is polished garden stones that can be engraved with whatever you may like. An inspirational word, the date of the wedding or the couples initials. They look great when coupled up with your favorite plants, and certainly not something that you would normally expect as a gift. Another idea that is thinking far outside the box, a sweet gift with personalized candy bar wrappers with names of the bride and groom, or a message of thanks from the newlyweds to the guests. Some may choose to put together cd’s full of the couple’s favorite songs. There are a number of options that are available, and finding them is as easy as looking around the house and thinking of what you use often that can be made special. You’ll find that while the item may seem common as a wedding favor it will be a bit of an offbeat gift. This unusual gesture will have your guests coming away feeling that you really took the time to find something different to simply say thank you.

Wedding Planning and Communication

When planning a wedding there are many people involved in the event, it involves far more than just the efforts of bride and groom. While the wedding may be their ‘idea’, to have it come off as planned they need to enlist the help of many. As with any relationship you have either on a business or personal level, the key to it being successful is being able to communicate information clearly and effectively. This is certainly the case for all the details and all the people that may be participating in this day.
Your guests will need information. They are a part of this day. Perhaps you want to send out ‘save the date’ notices well ahead of time to see what kind of feedback you get. If you have friends or family you really want to have there, then they need some notice. Certain times of the year, people’s calendars get filled up quickly. These notices can also serve to give ideas on the color scheme, or the theme of your wedding. If you are having a summer wedding and want to include a little image of sea shells or sand pails, they may see that you are leaning toward a beach themed wedding. Or if they cards are a crisp white with silver and black embossed details, and formal script, then you are letting them know it will be a more formal event. The invitations can be along the same theme.
As the plans start to unfold, keep in mind these people you talk to, whether a caterer, florist, seamstress or the minister you need to communicate very clearly to them what you are after. When it comes to flowers, table decorations, dresses, hairstyles take in pictures of the ones you like, after all a picture is worth a thousand words. This way you leave nothing to chance, what your heart desires is there in print for them to refer too. Also, be clear ahead of time on your budget for each area. If possible get quotes in writing or via email so you have something concrete to base your spending on. Presenting your dreams and ideas and communicating what you want is just one end of the business deal. Understanding the cost involved and making sure it’s feasible is key to sealing this deal. Don’t get blindsided just days before the event and find yourself with a bill you didn’t expect because ‘you didn’t know’. You NEED to know everything and need to ask if someone doesn’t tell you. This communication is a two way street in any relationship. Make sure the people you are counting on to help pull all the details together understand what you want by effectively communicating and likewise these people in the business to help have communicated to you what you need to know.

Seed wedding favors are becoming increasingly more popular. They are truly unique and fit in so well with a spring wedding. They can serve as a great reminder to your guests sending a message on what a wedding is all about. A new beginning that shows nothing but promise on one hand and on the other there is the need for the relationship to be nurtured and cared for. Once planted, these seeds will grow alongside the love of the bride and groom long after the special day is over. There are many different wedding favor ideas, but there are few that are more rewarding than watching these flowers blossom. You will be giving your guests a gift that will surely give back to them instead of something that could be set on and shelf and forgotten once the special day has passed.
The packages of seeds come in beautiful natural looking paper envelops shaped in a heart or a daisy. They are not only a lovely idea but come in these packages in a presentation that give the same feeling of a new beginning and need for care. The wildflower seeds themselves are a lovely variety that will surely spruce up any garden and brighten up any home, not to mention be a constant reminder of the day they were received. They are placed in a small envelope that you may want to personalize by writing the guests names, table numbers, or other important information pertaining to the big day. These favors are a small investment with a very lovely and memorable return when they blossom into beautiful precious flowers they will be a colorful reminder of your special day. They give back not only to the guests themselves, but also to the environment, something that few other wedding favors can claim to offer. The seed favors not only make a nice thank you and beautiful token of thanks on the day of your wedding but they are a great way to give your guests a lasting impression after the big day. You will smile and be able to indulge in your own wonderful memories as well when you visit friends and they are excited to show you what those tiny seeds have evolved into. 7 Tips for Choosing Wedding Favors

Wedding favors are small items, but lovely wedding gifts that the wedding couple leave for each guest at the wedding reception party. These gifts are usually set at each place setting and may be incorporated into the place setting as the name holder.

When getting ideas for wedding favors it is important to remember these 7 tips.

Tip #1 – Know your budget and stick to it. If you will be inviting 100 guests to your dinner reception and you only want to spend $100 on wedding favors you know that you need to look for wedding favors costing about $1 apiece. While most favors run in the $3-$5 range each, don’t be discouraged. One dollar per wedding favor can be done! There are tons of ideas out there. Purchase small gift bags that have been decorated and personalized as a place card. (You or a friend can do these by hand.) Then, large containers of items – beautiful shells, candies or potpourri can be used as centerpieces for the guests to take home a memento of your wedding celebration.

Tip #2 – Use the wedding favors as a way to set the wedding theme or colors. Small snowflake picture frames, ornaments, or photo coasters would be an elegant way to enhance a winter wedding.

Tip #3 – Whenever possible, incorporate the wedding favor as a cardholder for the place setting. If you have decided to assigned seating for your reception save yourself the time and expense of purchasing and arranging dozens of place cards and wedding favors. There are many wonderful favors that will serve double duty.

Tip #4 – Think outside of the box. A wedding favor is a gift, but there is no rule that states how it has to be presented. You can save so much time, energy and worry. (Your worry, but mostly your bridesmaids time and energy, as they would probably be assigned the daunting task of wrapping those hundreds of gifts!)

Tip #5 – Be aware of the current trends and fashions. Wrapping candies in a circle of netting material and tying it with a personalized ribbon with your names and wedding date on them is so 1990s. There is no reason to despair even if you are completely lost for ideas. There are so many resources you can tap into. You can search the Internet for ideas, join an online community of other people who are planning weddings and share ideas, or thumb through wedding magazines. If you can’t afford to buy them, go to your local library and browse through the current and past issues for ideas.

Tip #6 – Use the newest technology to really make an impression on your guests. You have probably been to a wedding where disposable 35mm cameras are left on the table for guests to use, but are you aware that they make disposable camcorders now? Each guest could record their wedding wishes to you and take about 20 minutes of footage. The cameras are returned to the store where you purchased them and a DVD is made of each camera’s contents.

Tip #7 – Enjoy the entire experience, remember this is supposed to be fun! If the idea of finding wedding favors puts you over the edge then you are taking on more than you can handle. The secret to staying sane while planning a wedding is to enjoy every stage – even the difficult ones. Planning and pulling off a large ceremony and party does take quite a bit of organization and a huge sense of humor. If you are acting as your own wedding planner try to make each decision and task as joyful and fun as possible. Yes, there will be stumbling blocks, but there is also a lot of festivity and amusement that goes along with planning a wedding. So, savor every moment.

Saving Money with Wedding Collections

Even in a jacked up doom and gloom economy, most Americans are spending over $20,000 for their wedding day. Of this amount over 46% goes to the cost of the wedding reception. And we’re not talking about the type of reception the rich and famous would have. Even modest receptions can cost tens of thousands of dollars.
However, it’s not just the wedding reception itself, but rather the little things that make up the reception. In fact, even if you decide to have your reception in your backyard, you may still end up paying a couple thousand dollars if you want decent wedding favors.
For this reason, you may want to consider getting some of your favors through wedding collections. What makes up wedding collections? Wedding collections contain different sets of wedding items at one low convenient price. The most common type of wedding collection will include the flower girl basket, the garter, the ring bearer pillow, and the wedding unity candle, some will contain even more items.
You can also select a wedding theme. Say for instance you want an Irish wedding. You could get the “Irish Affection” wedding collection. This collection features white and green items.
Another example can be seen in the “Midnight Rendezvous” wedding collection. Designed in black, the Midnight Rendezvous collection could be used for a variety of themes. One of them could be for those who want to commemorate celebrating a night wedding. The collection could also be used to help design a less conventional ‘Gothic’ wedding.
What about the couple that desires a more traditional wedding? Well, there’s “A Touch of Gold,” collection which features the more conventional colors of white and gold. There are also wedding collections where everything is designed in white or ivory. By using wedding collections and cheaper venues for your reception, you can have an elegant wedding without burning a hole in your wallet. And this is important, because as a newly married couple, that extra $20,000 is better served as a down payment for a new home.
